“The inspiration for this painting is my brother, Karl Foster. The drawing I made of him was included in my portrait exhibition at Lauderdale House in London. I worked directly from the drawing I made from life and included elements of landscape. Who is this young man? Where has he come from? What/who is he looking at? Mysterious prussian and ultramarine blues and raw umbers give the painting depth. The eyes have been wiped away as if he is looking out from behind a window.”
