‘Homeostasis No.6’. Acrylic and Conté on Canvas. 60x60cm
Artist’s Statement: “As human beings, one of our amazing abilities is achieving and maintaining homeostasis. Homeostasis happens when our bodies maintain a constant internal environment despite external situations. It refers to how a person under conflicting stresses and motivations can maintain a stable psychological condition. The body uses a combination of the parasympathetic nervous system working in conjunction with the sympathetic nervous system to manage the body’s responses. These paintings are my interpretation of homeostasis, combining figurative life drawings and abstract painting techniques working together to create this (unseen) balance within our bodies. We must remain in balance to survive”.
